Seven Day Jesus

Description

The self-titled, sophomore album by the American pop-rock band Seven Day Jesus, released on Forefront Records in 1997, distributed by Chordant Distribution Group. The album was recorded by Mark Chevalier and Martin Woodlee with Brent Milligan producing.

If this album was a car, it would be a turbo-charged convertible, with cruise control! Whoops! I’m coming over all Jeremy Clarkson again; but having said that, a good description nonetheless. This is an exceptionally enjoyable album – well produced, well written, melodic and full of energy. I especially like the clever mono to stereo beginning to «Down With The Ship» (track one). It starts like a crackly, rumbly old gramophone record, then with a sort of phase effect, widens into crisp, tight stereo. «Butterfly» (track three) has been put on the regular M2 playlist, MTV’s sister channel in the US. There isn’t a single track I do not like of the 10 available. I’ve thought long and hard about comparisons… It does sound sort of ’80s retro… If you like the Rembrandts, you’ll love this. But it can stand alone. A great album. [Andrew Privett, Cross Rhythms, June 1998]
