Description
Seven Seventy-Seven is the fifth studio album by the American singer, songwriter, and guitarist Robin Crow (a.k.a. Robin Runge), released on Fortress Records in 1985, a division of Refuge Records, distributed by The Benson Company in the US. The album was recorded July-December 1984 by Chris McCollum, Doug Sarrett, and Dave Perkins at Great Circle Sound, at Sound Stage Studios, and at Reel Sound Remote Bus in Nashville, Tennessee; and was produced by Robin Crow with George Cocchini co-producing. (Cocchini playes electric guitar on the album as well.) Mixed by Brent King and McCollum. Features three instrumental tracks and seven vocal tracks. All songs written by Robin Crow.
After several years on small, independent labels, Crow has obviously found a home on Fortress. His acoustic guitar wizardry remains intact, as does his songwriting, which will remind some listeners of a Bob Bennett or Phil Keaggy. The genre here is bell-like acoustic pop with an occasional foray into acoustic rock.
Crow also pulls off a genuine rarity – three instrumentals that sounds so good, you wish he’d written words for them: «Titanic», «Seven Seventy-Seven», and «Third World – Dedication». «Third World» has several fascinating Indian or Eastern overtones within a mainstream rock setting. Also destined for radio success are «Starting Over» and «Lift up Your Voices», the latter featuring an additional vocal by Michael Card. [Bob Darden, CCM, May 1985]
