All Things Are Possible

Description

All Things Are Possible is the solo debut album – as well as the first gospel oriented effort – by the American singer and songwriter Dan Peek (November 1, 1950 – July 24, 2011) of America fame, released on Lamb & Lion Records in February 1979, distributed by Word. (According to the October 14, 1978 issue of Cash Box magazine, “Dan Peek former founding member, composer and lead guitarist for the group America, recently signed a recording contract with Lamb and Lion Records. A solo album, produced by Chris Christian, is scheduled for February release.“) In October the same year, the album was re-issued by MCA/Songbird, a gospel imprint of MCA Records (the September 29, 1979 issue of Record World announced the release of All Things Are Possible in the first week of October, and according to the the November 17 issue, “Dan Peek … recently signed with the contemporary Christian label MCA/Songbird.”) Later as well released on producer Chris Christian‘s own label, Home Sweet Home Records. The album was recorded at the SoundCastle and Cherokee Studios in Hollywood, California; and as well at Gold Mine Studio in Brentwood, Tennessee; with Chris Christian producing for Home Sweet Home Productions. Engineered by Brown Bannister, Jon Yeaworth, Richard Donaldson, and Rick Ruggieri. Strings and horns arranged by Bergen White.

The album track “All Things Are Possible” was among the Top Five Songs of 1979, according to CCM Magazine.

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE – DAN PEEK – Lamb & Lion LL 1040 (Word)

Peek’s smooth vocal styling once a part of the group America is the easily recognizable focal point on his first gospel album. «Love Was Just Another Word», «One Way», «Hometown» and the title cut offer a representative view of the LPs laid back sound. Identity from past pop involvements will no doubt augment customer appeal. [Record World (Gospel Album Picks), April 28, 1979]

Formerly one third of the group America, Dan Peek stepped into the CCM scene with this Chris Christian-produced solo LP. If like me you’re a fan of America’s early-to-mid-‘70s “classic” period, then you’re bound to be a bit disappointed here as there are no hippie vibes, no horse with no name, no soapsud green like bubbles. Typical Chris Christian stuff, smooth with strings, sax, etc., smarmy here and there, but still a fairly catchy pop-rock record that transcends most CCM. Occasional glimmers of his old group surfacing on «Love Was Just Another Word», «You’re My Savior» and the banjo-backed «Hometown». Rocks fairly decently on «One Way».
