Apostle

Description

The self-titled cassette-only album by the American metal band Apostle was self-released in 1989. The album was recorded September 1986 by Roger Heiss at Tone Zone Recording in Chicago, Illinois; with Glenn Kaiser of Resurrection Band fame producing. “Mix down & manufactured at The Warehouse Recording Studio in Jacksonville, Florida.” All songs written and arranged by Matt Harding except tracks A3 and B1 (Harding and Mark Borrero) and tracks A2 and B5 (Harding and Chip Randall).

The band features Matt Harding on guitar and vocals, David Lawson on bass and vocals, and Bill Box on drums.

This tape is something referred to as Metal for the Master (even though those words don’t appear on the cassette) or Tone Zone (after the name of the studio it was recorded at in Chicago, Illinois). This tape is also sometimes listed as a 1983 or 1987 release, but that was probably due to someone misreading the last “9” in the small text on the cover. So that means the same tape is sometimes listed up to three times in some discographies. Add to the confusion the fact that all of the songs here are new versions of older songs on earlier tapes. I believe the story is that the band went into the studio with Glenn Kaiser of Rez Band producing to record their greatest hits in a better studio. And they did get one blazing metal album out of – putting together their best songs might have been hard to choose, but it makes for one traditional / power metal head-banging party on tape. These are mostly the same versions as older ones, different but better recorded versions. This came out a year after Hymns, the same year as Matt Harding did his other band Steel Armada, and a good five years before the bands next and final release Prepare to Meet God.
