I’m Supposed to Have Sex with You – b/w “True Confessions” – is a two-sided 45 RPM 12-inch vinyl single by the American singer and songwriter Tonio K., released on A&M Records in 1987 (catalogue number SP-12252). The title track was taken from the 1987 Summer School motion picture soundtrack. The track on the flip-side was taken from Tonio K.’s full-length album Romeo Unchained released on What? Records the previous year, distributed by both Word Records and A&M Records. Both tracks were written by Tonio K. with Rick Neigher producing.

Song of the week! Tonio K, a hero of these pages, pulls out yet another couch classic from the cluttered furniture crowding his satirical brain. This could be the most misunderstood track of the year. Its the antithesis of George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex.” In a bass-ackward way, Tonio seems to be mourning the tenderness missing during the act of seduction. At least that’s my interpretation. Note: The title track was also released as a 7-inch single by Chrysalis (VS7 2785). The track was later included on Tonio K.’s CD compilation Rodent Weekend ’76-’96 (Approximately). (In the linear notes for Rodent Weekend Tonio K. states this was his biggest hit and it wasn’t even on one of his albums.)
