Description
For Now 3 is an album by the American rock combo The Coalition (a friendly alliance of West Coast musicians), released on Concordia in 1972. The album was recorded by Paul Elmore at Whitney Studios in Glendale, California.
Featuring The Coalition: Vocals by Genie Lawrence, Jim Lawrence, Alfred McCrary, Charity McCrary, Linda McCrary, Sam McCrary, and C. B. Wismar. (The McCrary siblings released their solo debut album Sunshine Day on Light Records the same year.) As well featuring Mark Hersh, Jim Lawrence, Jeff Scarborough, and C. B. Wismar on guitars, Mark Hersh and Alfred McCray on Fender Bass, with Leon Allison and John Hernandez providing percussion.
The first two album in the For Now Series were released by Concordia the same year, simply entitled For Now 1 and For Now 2.
Songs for when you’re out of it.
Songs for when you’re on top of it.
Songs for when you’re all together.
Songs for when you’re not.
Songs when nothing else will do.Brand-new Jesus songs. Also known as hymns. But hardly hymns of the organ variety. These are hymns turned loose on the world, turned loose to meet the varied paces of now – with rhythms that get to the quick of now. Where the sharing and caring, feasting and confessing goes on. Where the Spirit is alive and well and living among us!
FOR NOW 3 is brought to you by “The Coalition,” a friendly alliance of West Coast musicians. They come together on soul-blues, on jazz, on hard rock – ongoing sounds for any moment now. [Liner notes printed on the back of the LP sleeve]
Hymns For Now 3: How
Not ordinary hymns –
these are completely new sounds
with words that belong to today.
Not just for Sunday –
these are hymns for NOW.Hymns about busrides and daydreams, Squirrels and beggars. Laughing. Crying. Caring. Sharing. Feasting and confessing Liturgy written in the street.
Jesus songs. Because He’s passing through them. Now. Because He passed through the writers when they wrote them. Regular people – students and poets and traveling minstrels. Who got the Spirit and had to get it out. So you could get it too. It’s their way of saying The Spirit is alive and well and living among us!
And here’s how. How you and your group can catch on to the rhythms – folk style. Straight from the book – HYMNS FOR NOW III – as the writers meant them. Done by “Chronicle,” a folk trio from Los Angeles where their speciality is Gospel sounds. Surely they can show you how. For now.
CHRONICLE: Genie Lawrence (Vocals), Jim Lawrence (12-string Guitar, Vocals), C. B. Wismar (6-string Guitar, Banjo, Vocals), Mark Hersh (Fender Bass), Leon Allison (Drums). Recorded by Paul Elmore at Whitney Studios in Glendale, California; with Victor Growcock producing. [Liner notes printed on the back of the LP sleeve]
