Joy in the Journey

Description

Joy in the Journey, sub-titled Cello Performances of Favorite Hymns and Sacred Songs, is the solo debut album by the American session cellist and concert performer John Catchings, released on Sparrow Records in 1989. The album was recorded by Mark Schiffelbein and Mike Mierau at Whitefield Studio in Santa Ana and at Pakaderm Studio in Los Alamitos, California; with John Andrew Schreiner producing and arranging.

Featuring John Catchings on cello, John Andrew Schreiner on keyboards, Hadley Hockensmith of Koinonia fame on guitar, John Patitucci on bass, Dave Spurr of Tamarack and Fourth Estate fame on drums, and Alejandro “Happy” Gonzalez on percussion.

John and I have labored together for almost 10 years now and over 1000 concerts. My calling has been to speak primarily with words; his through music. His cello has communicated to so many who are beyond my words. How good it is to hear him “speak” now in his own special way by means of these sacred melodies. – Michael Card [Note featured in the album insert]
