In a Different Light is the sophomore album by the American pop/rock combo Wings of Light, released on Christian Artists’ Records in 1982. Re-issued in the US by Emerald Records in 1983. Also released in the UK by DaySpring Records in 1983, a division of Word. The album was recorded and mixed by Billy Taylor at Mama Jo’s Recording Studio in North Hollywood, California; with Terry Winch and David Diggs producing, assisted by associate producer Fred J. Heumann. Vocal overdubs engineered by Christopher Banninger. Synthesizers, rhythm, and strings arranged by Diggs.
Vocals solos by John Barbour, Nina Farley, and Fred Heumann, as well as guest soloists Susan Bishop and Diane Zagnoli. Featuring a session band consisting of producer David Diggs on keyboards and synthesizers (as well as percussion), Paul Jackson, Jr. on guitar, Leon Gaer on bass, and Ed Greene on drums. Also featuring Jim Cole on alto and tenor saxophones, as well as brass players Danny Ackerman (trumpet), Terry Winch (Flugelhorn), and Alan Kaplan (trombone).
Featuring mostly cover tunes, like “Imagine” by Bob Wilson of Seawind fame (a song from Seawind’s 1979-album, Light the Light), “Stride Right” by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire, as well as “The Coloring Song” written by Dave Eden (a song best known from the Petra cover released in 1981 as a part of their album Never Say Die).
Wings of Light was a gospel group that emerged out of the Continental Singers ministry. They got started in 1978-79 and was on the road through 1985, spending most of their time outside the US. Like the Continental Singers Wings Of Light worked with an ever-changing lineup, Fred Heumann being the only one who was in all but one iteration on the road. Wings Of light recorded three albums, all with a different sound, ranging from jazzy pop to AOR.
