Natural High is an album by the British jazz funk band Dimitri (featuring Jim Katsis), independently released on Alythkya Records in 2005, distributed by Integrity-Provident. The album was produced by Tim Powell Morris.
Dimitri, or Jimi K, or, if you prefer, Jim Katsis, is one of those grassroots Christian music artists I’ve been aware of for a few years. Born in London to Greek Cypriot parents and now living in South Devon, he’s been a powerful Gospel communicator for quite a while. But nothing quite prepared me for this tremendous album. Dimitri’s blue eyed soul stylings ooze authority, he’s penned a set of songs which make their spiritual points without resorting to language of Zion and producer Tim Powell Morris has put together a set of tracks that are sinuously funky with deft touches of jazz, pop and old skool R&B and funk. Love the choppy rhythm guitar on the title track, the delicious Max Turnbal piano solo on «Hypnotised» and the organic hooks which ooze a kind of free form joy. An independent release deserving of mainstream exposure. But don’t wait ’til you can pick it up in your local HMV. Search out a copy now.
