Plankeye – Spill

Description

Spill is the debut album by the American indierock band Plankeye, originally self-released on Walk The Plank Records in 1993, prior to signing to the Tooth & Nail label. Re-issued on Tooth & Nail Records in April the following year, distributed by Diamante. The album was recorded and mixed by Gene Eugene of Adam Again and Mark Rodriguez at A & B Studios with Pino Squillace and the band producing.

Plankeye features Scott Silletta on lead vocals and guitar; Eric Balmer on guitar; Luis Garcia on bass; and Adam Ferry on drums.

Spill / Walk The Plank Records, 1993

Every once and a while, I see someone online that is surprised to find out that Plankeye’s debut album was actually a re-release of an independent album. I have the cassette of that original release, but it was also independently released on CD as well. Tooth & Nail changed the cover and released this in 1994. To my ears, the independent version sounds mostly the same as the Tooth & Nail release, except that maybe the Tooth & Nail version might have been slightly remastered. Plankeye went on to have a long and successful career releasing several CDs after this one. Even though this album is still an alternative rock album, it was also probably their most punk-ish release. They went for a more mainstream alternative rock sound on their next albums.
