You is the sophomore album by the Canadian pop/rock band The Kry, released on Freedom Records in 1994, a division of Malaco, manufactured and distributed by Malaco Records. The album was produced and recorded by John Andrew Schreiner at his studio Jasmine Sound in California. (Additional engineering on track 11 by Chris Taylor, Doug Beiden, and Scott Osborne.) Mixed by Wyn Davis, assisted by Jared Johnson and Seth Cooperrider, at Total Access Recording Studios in Redondo Beach, California. Arranged by John Andrew Schreiner and the band.
The Kry – French Canadian brothers Jean-Luc (lead vocals, bass) and Yves (drums, backing vocals) Lajoie and guitarist Pete Nelson – has released its second album on a new label (Freedom Records), which features the same combination of encouragement, reflection and conviction, brought home by guitar-driven roots rock, not unlike Bryan Adams (whose voice Jean-Luc’s closely resembles… listen to «You’re All I Need»).
The U2 influence is also heard in the songs «I Keep on Running» and «Jesus is Coming Soon», based on an old Blind Willie Johnson blues piece. Nelson shows his influences from the funkier side of college rock in «Lay Down Your Gods» and «I Can’t Stop Thinkin’ About You», which opens with “Day by day I wake to your wonders/ In so many ways in so many colors.”
We all need to be reminded of God’s promises and «He Won’t Let You Go» does just that, encouraging the Christian to “…let Him hold you close, closer everyday.” The Kry has delivered a great second album, with enough lyrical meat and musical hooks to keep ’em fishing for a long time.
