Begin Again

Description

Begin Again is the third album by the British folk-pop trio Nutshell, released on Myrrh Records in 1978, a division of Word. (The album title refers to the fact that previous members Pam Thiele and Heather Barlowe had left the group, to be replaced by Annie McCaig and Mo McCafferty.) The album was recorded by Roger Wake at Redan Recorders in London, England; and was produced by Triumvirate Production – Jon Miller, Rod Edwards, and Roger Hand (probably best known as the production team behind the two first albums of Larry Norman‘s trilogy). Rhythm charts and string arrangements by Edwards and Hand. As always, the group’s output was based on Paul Field‘s songwriting talents.

The second version of the group, the two original girls having been replaced by Mo McCafferty and Annie McCraig. The harmonies and overall style of the group remains more or less the same, albeit slightly smoother, mellower and pop-oriented. Much of Begin Again consists of string-softened ballads: «Caroline», «In The Father’s Hand», «Starry Eyed And Laughing», «Stay Close», «The Dancer» and the lovely «First Snow». Rocks out briefly on «Take Me Down» with an electric guitar solo from Norman Barratt. Also released in the US on Myrrh (MSB 6513). [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th edition]
