Description
Come On In is the sophomore album by the Anglo-American pop duo Dave & Dana (husband and wife, Dave Price and Dana Lee Price), released on Pilgrim Records in 1976. Also released on Sound III in the US, distributed by special arrangement with Pilgrim Records. The album was recorded at Free Range Studios in London and at ICC Studios on Eastbourne, England; with John Pantry producing.
Featuring Dana Lee Price on lead vocals and Dave Price on guitar, backed by Pete Banks of After the Fire fame on MiniMoog, Peter Shade on vibes, Gerry Page on bass, and Pete Yates-Round of Parchment fame on drums, with Garth Hewitt sitting in on harmonica.
A husband and wife Anglo-American music duo, Dave is a native of London and Dana grew up near Annapolis, Maryland. Since they met in 1972 they have performed in many different venues throughout Britain, the U.S. and Canada. In the States these have included the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, Harvard University and West Point Military Academy. While in Britain they have played the Royal Albert Hall and have recorded for the BBC.
This album includes material that reflects their Anglo-American heritage. U.S. songs include the traditional Carter Family song «Troublesome Waters» and the contemporary «I Don’t Know Why» by Andrae Crouch. The British contributions are just some of the works being produced in Britain by such excellent writers as Betty Lou Mills, Judy MacKenzie, John Daniels, Lou Hayles and Ken Smith.
Dave and Dana’s own compositions give ample evidence of their desire that the music they perform should be spiritually based. [Album liner notes printed on the back of the LP sleeve of the US edition]
Amiable platter of folk and acoustic pop. A John Pantry production featuring several songs from British artists such as Lou Hayles, Graham Kendrick, Judy MacKenzie and Betty Lou Mills. Familiar names assisting musically include Pete Yates-Round (drums), Pete Banks (mini-moog) and Garth Hewitt (harmonica). Dave handles guitar while Dana provides the vocals. Light and easy but with a simple acoustic emphasis that keeps any glossy fluff tendencies safely at bay. Dave pulls out a sitar for their sprightly cover of Meet Jesus Music’s «Melchisedek», while Andrae Crouch’s «I Don’t Know Why» bounces along with some exciting lead guitar. Also released in the US on the Sound III label. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
