More from the Astonishing, Outrageous, Amazing, Incredible, Unbelievable Gary S. Paxton

Description

More from the Astonishing, Outrageous, Amazing, Incredible, Unbelievable Gary S. Paxton is a studio album by the American singer, songwriter, and producer Gary S. Paxton, released on NewPax Records in 1977, distributed by Word.

The 1976 album ‘The Astonishing, Outrageous…‘ amazingly won Gary S Paxton a Grammy Award for Best Inspirational Performance so it was hardly surprising that the following year Christian music’s arch eccentric should release another album of his decidedly original Christian songs. There’s plenty of the hitmaking songwriter/producer’s surreal wit on offer here («When The Meat Wagon Comes For You» and «There Goes A Cigar-Smoking Young Man») while Gary also offers his interpretations of Thomas A Dorsey’s «Precious Lord Take My Hand» and even a song he co-wrote with Bill and Gloria Gaither. If you have a taste for Nashville pop rock of the ’70s this oldie – subsequently re-issued on CD – is an intriguing blast from the past. [Tony Cummings, Cross Rhythms, July 2011]
