With Clouds

Description

With Clouds is the sophomore album by the American pop/rock band Selah, released on Milk & Honey in 1976. The album was recorded and mixed by Marshall Sanders with Dan Posthuma producing. The Ohio-based group Selah features Rod Robinson on lead and backup vocals, Steve Millikan on keyboards, backup and additional lead vocals, Fred Plassman on acoustic and electric guitars and backup vocals, Rick Swineford on bass, and Ray Moore on drums and percussion.

Now this is more like it. Three songs stand out in particular. The near seven minute «Cornucopiae» rocks out with a heavy climax that packs a fairly intense wallop, while the equally lengthy «Thomas Song» shifts from slow blues rock to a dreamy phased-vocal mid-section to jammin’ rock. «Who Was The One» also has significant rock muscle. A few other unsullied goodies in here as well. Includes covers of Ken Medema («Lord, Listen To Your Children») and Bill Gaither («I Just Came To Praise The Lord»). String orchestration is kept to a minimum. The mellow stuff still doesn’t grab me but there oughta be sufficient meat here to satisfy the rocker’s appetite. Now they’re showing a Dayton, Ohio address. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
