Distance of Doors

Description

Distance of Doors is the full-length debut album by the British singer and songwriter Jancis Harvey, released on Pilgrim King in 1973. The album was engineered by Bob Auger with Frank Waller producing. Featuring Jancis Harvey with Clive Argent (guitar and mandolin), Alec Anness (autoharp), and Bob Webb (guitar and flute). Includes five songs written by Jancis Harvey as well as several covers, like “Judas And Mary” and “When I Needed A Neighbour” written by Sydney Carter.

Sometimes likened to Fairport Convention’s Sandy Denny, this exceptional female folksinger has an accomplished style that’s immediately accessible, not to mention miles above most Christian offerings. Distance Of Doors is a lovely recording that resonates with the authenticity and acoustic purity of the best of British folk, her penetrating vocals backed by guitars, mandolin, autoharp and flute. Several of the songs are her own compositions, including «Inasmuch», «City Song», «Have We Changed?», «It Is Written Of You» and the title track. Also covers of Sidney Carter («When I Needed A Neighbour», «Judas And Mary»), Paul Simon («I Am A Rock»), Gordon Lightfoot («Home From The Forest»), «Morning Has Broken», «Simple Gifts» and «Jesus Knows». See also EP section. [Ken Scott, The Archivist, 4th Edition]
