Light the Light

Description

Light the Light is the third album by the American jazz fusion group Seawind, released on Horizon in 1979, manufactured and distributed by A&M Records. (Horizon was a short-lived A&M Records label which released jazz, R&B, and funk titles.) The album was recorded by Al Schmitt and Armin Steiner at Sound Labs in Hollywood, California; with Tommy LiPuma producing. Mixed by Schmitt at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. All songs written by Seawind drummer Bob Wilson, except track A3 written by keyboardist Larry Williams.

This album features the band’s signature tune, the Bob Wilson penned “Follow Your Road.” Produced by Tommy LiPuma, Light the Light won many new Seawind fans and the group performed before thousands as the opening act for the multi-platinum George Benson and Boz Scaggs. The same year, Seawind’s Pauline Wilson sang a duet with George Benson on the Grammy Award winning album In Harmony, and Seawind and George Benson co-headlined the now-legendary 1979 Hawaiian Islands Tour.

Light the Light was included among CCM Magazine’s Top 10 Contemporary/Rock Albums of 1979 – Christian music’s finest jazz-rock outfit delivered again with a tight, well-produced and well thought-out album that attracted the ears of many secular listeners as well.

SEAWIND Horizon 122 (A&M) FOLLOW YOUR ROAD (prod. by LiPuma) (writer: Wilson) (Seawind/Sojourn, BMI) (3:46)

This seven member unit excels in pop-jazz with the emphasis here on Pauline Wilson’s tender vocals. A backing keyboard, guitar & string ensemble is lushly produced by Tommy LiPuma. [Record World, July 21, 1979 (Single Picks, Pop)]
