Description
Pioneer, sub-titled 20th Anniversary Recording, is the ninth studio album by the American singer and songwriter Honeytree (a.k.a. Nancy Henigbaum), released on Signature Music in 1993. The album tracks were recorded by Bill Mullin at Quad Studios in Nashville, Tennessee; with Larry Moore, Doug Theisen, and Mullin producing for Signature Music. Overdubs and mixing done at Mindscape in Chicago, Illinois. All songs written by Honeytree.
The title of this album is a fitting one indeed, as Nancy Honeytree was one of contemporary Christian music’s pioneers, the first female singer-songwriter to be signed to a Christian label with national distribution. For her 20th anniversary recording, Honeytree returns to what she always did best – acoustic based music that spotlights her clear gentle signature vocals. The only twist this time around is that the decision to travel from her Ft. Wayne, Indiana home to Nashville to record has produced a more obvious result than most other Christian music recorded there. The record has a decidedly country bent, and she wears it well. Her last few records had moved in a more inspirational, church music direction, but this feels closer to her roots and sounds both natural and logical. [Thom Granger, CCM, April 1994]
