Description

The Word Family Christmas Album is a multi-artist Christmas compilation released on Word Records in 1980.

Mostly traditional Christmas songs in simple arrangements, this LP will be especially attractive to those who enjoy male vocalists and Evie. (She sings two cuts.) A medley of tastefully-arranged carols by the Gaither Trio and a gently rocking «Do You Hear What I Hear?» by Mike Douglas contrast effectively with Evie’s highly-styled vocals («Away In A Manger» and «O Holy Night») and B.J. Thomas’ «Silent Night» accompanied by single violin and piano.

Also on this album: the not-so-traditional «Why Isn’t Everybody Singing Allelu!!» well-sung by Tom Netherton; Dave Boyer’s «Carol of Christmas»; a Robert Hale and Dean Wilder duet, «O Come All Ye Faithful»; and a tune by Anita Bryant, «What Child Is This?» The Gaither Trio (actually mostly Gary McSpadden here) closes with «He’s Still the King of Kings (And Lord of Lords)».
