Description
On Rock is the debut album by the Canadian hard rock group Daniel Band, released on Streetlight Records in Canada in 1982, and on Lamb & Lion Records in the US, distributed by The Benson Company. The album was recorded by Wes Storms and Réné (Boucher) Brossard at Sound Design Studios in Toronto, Canada; and was produced by the band with assistance from Roger Heiss and Glenn Kaiser of Resurrection Band fame. Mixed by Mark Wright and Roger Heiss at Phase One in Toronto. On Rock is a solid debut of classic guitar-driven hard rock goodness.
The recorded debut of the Toronto-based Daniel Band is ‘On Rock’ (Lamb & Lion LL-1070). The title of this fine first album reflects not only the hard-driving heavy-metal rock sounds that the band employs, but also expresses their intent to point to Christ, the foundation and rock of our salvation. The Daniel Band warrants attention for the energy and sheer potency of this, their first pressing on vinyl.
The Daniel Band majors on straight-ahead, heavy rock. Their music, at different times, reminds one of three other Canadian bands: Triumph, April Wine, and the early efforts of Rush. The exceptionally strong vocals and lead guitars, together with the incredible energy that pervades the performances, give the Daniel Band a winning sound.
‘On Rock’ was produced by the band with some consultation with Resurrection Band‘s Roger Heiss and Glenn Kaiser. The results are favorable, and the guitars and vocals cut through with clarity; but the rhythm section is often cluttered on the faster sections. The eleven tunes have good, memorable melodies and punchy, to-the-point lyrics which work well, but it is the overpowering energy which fills up these grooves that makes the Daniel Band a group to listen for ‘On Rock’. In 1982 Daniel Band burst on the scene with their song «I’m Sorry», the lead single from their debut album, On Rock. Daniel Band was one of the very first hard rock/metal bands with a Christian message. This debut was raw and full of energy that expanded the scope of hard music in the church. In 1982, there were 4 hard rock bands with a Christian message that could be found in your local bookstore: Jerusalem, Rez Band, Petra, Barnabas – and now Daniel Band. Christian rockers thought they’d found pure gold in Daniel Band. With those Geddy Lee (Rush) vibes and the wild and dirty guitar tones (ala Ted Nugent, early Kiss, AC/DC) throughout the album, fans knew they had something special with On Rock. The 2022 heavyweight Random Color Vinyl features two brand new songs, «It All Turns To Rain» and «I Give You All», recorded by the band in 2009 and on vinyl for the very first time! Long out of print and hard-to-find, now is your chance to capture the hard edged charm of the debut release from Daniel Band on this Collector’s Edition release. On Rock has never sounded or looked better! This classic has been digitally remastered by J Powell @ Steinhaus and includes a 12×12 full color insert featuring new band pics, lyrics, and a write up from Retroactive Records owner! This release is for the collector who wants everything elite – the music, the packaging, the music! For fans of Triumph, Rush, Bon Jovi, Resurrection Band, and Jerusalem! The charm, the riffs, the rock are all heavy on this one!
